Cool New Android Apps in 2017

Last Pass: Password Manager

LastPass promises to be the only password you need to remember and that seems tempting. This is a must-have Android app, as it is a password manager and generator that lock your password and personal information in a secure vault. LastPass primarily exists as a Chrome extension in the desktop. But I was impressed by the ease with which it synced across Windows, and Android device. So one can easily login have multiple accounts opened and their credentials stored, just by clicking you can be logged into an account stored in LastPass. The only sad part is that you cannot take a screenshot of the app on your Android device at any point (or probably is a good thing).

LastPass

This App is available for free on Android Play store and for $12 a year you can get added layers of security to LastPass.

NOVA Launcher

By all accounts, Nova Launcher seems to extend beyond what normal launchers are. After all these years it still remains the go-to launcher if you are looking for anything of an upgrade to your look and feel of the Smartphone’s interface. It has been regularly updated and supported by their team. This app can make your phones resemble that of the Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy or any device you like. You can choose from the light and dark themes and if you want onscreen buttons or swipe-based interface. This app gives the flexibility to have to customize the look and feel of your device so that whenever you are bored of your phone and looking for a new look, it is no further than just a click away in your app.

Just add new transactions when you are buying a coffee or taking a taxi, It is done in one click because you do not need to fill anything except the expense amount. This truly is a lifesaver if you are a mess at money management as I am.

This app is available for free on Android Play Store, although to change the currency value to Rupee one has to pay additional Rs. 150/- but I would suggest do not and keep on using it as it is.

Shelve Items to read it when and how you want to across a range of devices

Pocket is the place to quickly save, discover, and recommend the best, most interesting stories on the Web, amongst your various social feeds. The next time you find an article on the web or shared by friend’s online, video or link you want to read or watch later, just save it to Pocket. It easily syncs across your phone, tablet, and computer so you can come back to it whenever and wherever you’d like. So the standalone feature that sold me to this app is it’s accessible even when you’re offline and have the articles stored locally on your phone.

Google Allo

Say Hello to this new chatty text enabled assistant. The word Allo is derived from the word different, and to capture the imagination of the public you have to come up with something new and unique. In this ever-growing app ecosystem, Google has been unable to become a serious market player in providing messaging based applications that are widely used.

This new app has the Google assistant built in and this uses the Google’s machine learning capabilities to answer your questions. Allo wants to help you cut down on typing on small screens by suggesting replies based on context. If a friend asks how you’re doing, you can tap “Fine.” Allo preserves chatting shortcuts such as “u’’ for “you.” So if “u” is typed then “You” would pop up.

Google has been launching many similar apps, but with this one, Google has hit a home run and can very well be a companion.

Duolingo

If you plan on immigrating to a new country or want to express delight while eating food in Spain, then you would have gone through a feeling of dismay in not doing so in the native tongue. Then look no further as there is an app that can help you learn, and no I’m not referring to the weird and contextually incorrect method that Samsung had used in its Galaxy S4. If you are interested then Duolingo is a one-stop shop to learn any and all languages. It basically makes learning language a sport and with bite-sized lessons and a friendly interface. Starting with simple vocabulary and building from there, Duolingo is a one-stop guide to learning a new language. The more you use the app, the more you unlock and with practice the more you learn. This app currently supports Danish, Dutch, French, German, Irish, Italian, Portuguese,  Spanish, and Swedish.
