Red Hydrogen One: A $1200 Smartphone by a Digital Cinema Camera Maker

Red Hydrogen Smartphone

The RED Digital Cinema Camera Company is responsible for manufacturing some of the most cutting-edge cameras on the market that are used for professional content creation and brings movie content creation to relatively smaller setups.
It was some days ago, that it was announced that they would be releasing a new smartphone. This came a bit as a shocker as they are a core camera manufacturing company. And also their cameras are known for being completely modular and expensive. There has been a trend where the traditional smartphone manufacturers i.e. Apple, Samsung, HTC are pushing their resources in building better cameras on their smartphones, with RED making a splash in this product category can shake up the segment.
Some of the key highlights that have been mentioned in the initial announcement are the Hydrogen One’s holographic display. The company says the phone’s display will let you view 3D, VR, AR, MR, and holographic RED Hydrogen 4-View (H4V) content without using any sort of headset or glasses or anything other accessories. The exact specification of the display is yet to surface, but the announcement alone was enough to entice the enthusiasts.
Besides the 5.7″ high-res display supporting a holographic display, a USB-C port, and a microSD slot for storage expansion, nothing else is listed in the press release about the phone’s specs, so your guess is as good as mine.
How much is it going to cost to invest in the Red Universe for Phone? RED is selling it right now on a pre-order basis, and you can claim either the aluminum model for $1195, or the titanium one for $1595. If it sounds steep then going by the company’s record and pricing of their cameras the phone feels relatively inexpensive.
